Goldendoodle, Bernedoodle & Golden Mountain Doodle Puppy FAQ – Beechwood

Welcome to the Beechwood Doodle Puppy FAQ.

Here you’ll find clear answers to the most common questions about our Goldendoodle, Bernedoodle, and Golden Mountain Doodle puppies, as well as how our adoption process works.

1. About Beechwood & Our Doodle Breeds

Who is Beechwood?
Beechwood is a small, dedicated breeder focused on raising healthy, well‑socialized doodle puppies. Our puppies are raised with daily handling, careful socialization, and high standards of health, care, and temperament testing so they’re ready to join your family with confidence.

Which doodle breeds do you offer?
We currently offer Goldendoodle puppies and are adding Bernedoodle and Golden Mountain Doodle puppies soon. All of our doodles are bred for sound temperaments, family‑friendly personalities, and beautiful, low‑maintenance coats.

What is your breeding philosophy?
At Beechwood, we prioritize health, temperament, and ethical breeding practices. Our pups live in our home with early socialization and plenty of human interaction, and our parent dogs are first and foremost pets who live with families who love them and are dedicated to our Guardianship Program. As a GANA Gold Level breeder, ALL our parent dogs pass the highest levels of genetic, health and OFA clearances.

2. Goldendoodle Puppy FAQ

What is a Goldendoodle?
A Goldendoodle is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. Goldendoodle puppies are known for their friendly, outgoing personalities, intelligence, and potential for low‑shedding coats.

Are Goldendoodles good family dogs?
Yes. Goldendoodles are typically affectionate, social, and great with children when they are properly trained and socialized. They tend to enjoy being part of an active family and love spending time with their people.

Do Goldendoodles shed?
Shedding can vary depending on coat type and genetics. Many Goldendoodles are no to low‑shedding compared to Golden Retrievers, but no breeder can guarantee a completely non‑shedding dog. We rely on genetic testings and thoughtful pairings regarding the Furnishing gene--the same gene the poodle has that's responsible for allergy friendly and low to no shed.

Are Goldendoodles hypoallergenic?
Goldendoodles are often described as low-shedding and more allergy-friendly, but no dog is truly 100% hypoallergenic. Many people with mild to moderate allergies do very well with Goldendoodles—especially those with both Furnishing Genes—which make them exactly like the poodle. That said, individual reactions vary, so we always recommend allergy-sensitive families spend time with the breed before committing. Check out our blog on this topic.

How big do your Goldendoodles get?
Adult size depends on the parents and the specific litter. For each litter, we provide expected adult size ranges when pairings are listed. We use the following size categories at Beechwood:

  • Petite: under 14 inches at the withers, typically 25 lbs or less

  • Miniature: over 14 inches but under 17 inches, typically 26–35 lbs

  • Medium: over 17 inches but under 21 inches, typically 36–50 lbs

  • Standard: over 21 inches, typically 51 lbs or more

How often do Goldendoodles need grooming?
Most Goldendoodles need regular brushing at home several times a week and professional grooming every 6–8 weeks to keep their coats healthy and free of mats.

3. Bernedoodle Puppy FAQ

What is a Bernedoodle?
A Bernedoodle is a cross between a Bernese Mountain Dog and a Poodle. Bernedoodle puppies are often loving, loyal, and gentle, with a fun, sometimes goofy personality.

What is the temperament of a Bernedoodle?
Bernedoodles tend to be affectionate, people‑oriented, and very loyal to their families. With proper training and socialization, they can make excellent family companions and typically enjoy both playtime and relaxation.

Do Bernedoodles shed?
Shedding can range from almost non-existent to very low, depending on coat type. Bernedoodles shed much less than a purebred Bernese Mountain Dog, but some minimal shedding is still possible. We can help you understand the coat type of each puppy based on genetics.

Are Bernedoodles hypoallergenic?

Like Goldendoodles , Bernedoodles are often described as low-shedding and more allergy-friendly, but no dog is truly 100% hypoallergenic. Many people with mild to moderate allergies do very well with Bernedoodles—especially Bernedoodles with both Furnishing Genes—which make them exactly like the poodle. That said, individual reactions vary, so we always recommend allergy-sensitive families spend time with the breed before committing. Check out our blog on this topic.

How big do your Bernedoodles get?

Adult size depends on the parents and the specific litter. Our aim is to create minis and mediums.

4. Golden Mountain Doodle Puppy FAQ

What is a Golden Mountain Doodle?
A Golden Mountain Doodle is a cross that combines the Golden Retriever, Bernese Mountain Dog, and Poodle. This mix is designed to bring together the friendliness of the Golden Retriever, the loyalty of the Bernese Mountain Dog, and the intelligence and low‑shedding potential of the Poodle.

How is a Golden Mountain Doodle different from a Goldendoodle or Bernedoodle?
Golden Mountain Doodles blend traits from both Goldendoodles and Bernedoodles. They may have a balanced mix of the Golden’s outgoing nature, the Bernese’s calm loyalty, and the poodle’s intelligence and coat qualities. Individual puppies can vary, and we’re happy to help you choose a good match for your family.

Do Golden Mountain Doodles shed?
Many Golden Mountain Doodles are no to low‑shedding, but shedding will depend on coat type and the individual puppy. We can explain coat types in each litter and help set expectations before you reserve a puppy.

Are Golden Mountain Goldendoodles hypoallergenic?

It's all about the coat genetics and Furnishing Gene, which we confirm through genetic testing. They are often described as low-shedding and more allergy-friendly, but no dog is truly 100% hypoallergenic. Many people with mild to moderate allergies do very well with these doodles. That said, individual reactions vary, so we always recommend allergy-sensitive families spend time with the breed before committing. Check out our blog on this topic.

What size are your Golden Mountain Doodles?
Our Golden Mountain Doodle puppies are expected to reach around mini (26-35 lbs) to medium (36-50 lbs). As litters arrive, we’ll provide estimated adult sizes for each puppy based on the parents.

When will Golden Mountain Doodle puppies be available?
Our first Golden Mountain Doodle puppies are planned for summer 2026. If you’re interested in this breed, please contact us so we can let you know about timelines and waitlist options.

5. Health, Care & Temperament

Are your doodle puppies health tested?
Our breeding dogs receive appropriate health testing for key genetic conditions, along with regular veterinary care. Each puppy is examined by a veterinarian and goes home with a health record and up‑to‑date care.

What vaccinations and vet care do puppies receive before going home?
Puppies receive age‑appropriate vaccinations and deworming, along with a thorough vet check before going home. You’ll receive detailed records to share with your veterinarian.

What is your health guarantee?
We provide a written health guarantee that covers specific genetic conditions for a set period of time. See Beechwood Short and Longterm Health Guarantees. We are happy to review the guarantee with you before you place you application fee.

What are your puppies’ typical temperaments?
At Beechwood, we focus on calm, friendly, family‑friendly temperaments. Puppies are handled daily and introduced to normal household sights and sounds to help them grow into confident, well‑adjusted companions.

What should I feed my new doodle puppy?
We start your pup on the highest quality kibble we've found: PawTree. It has NO corn, wheat, soy, or by-products. To an array of proteins to pick from, they add ingredients such as oatmeal, brown rice, barley, millet, flax, sea salt, coconut oil, and dried carrots, spinach, apples,
cranberries, blueberries, pumpkin, sweet potato, broccoli and parsley, and added taurine for heart health. We recommend continuing that food or slowly transitioning to a similar, high‑quality puppy food over several days to avoid stomach upset.

6. Training, Socialization & Grooming

Do you start socialization and basic training?
Yes. Our puppies experience Puppy Culture's early handling and socialization, and we introduce them to basic routines. We start crate exposure and simple potty habits--you will get to sleep through the night when you take your pup home! You’ll need to continue consistent training.

Are Goldendoodles, Bernedoodles, and Golden Mountain Doodles easy to train?
All three doodle types are intelligent and eager to please. With positive, consistent training and clear routines, most doodle puppies learn quickly and enjoy working with their families.

Do doodle puppies need regular grooming?
Yes. Doodle coats require ongoing care. Regular brushing at home and professional grooming every 6–8 weeks (depending on coat type and length) helps prevent mats and keeps your puppy comfortable.

How should I prepare my home for a new puppy?
We recommend having a crate, food and water bowls, quality puppy food, a few safe chew toys, a leash and collar, and a designated potty area. Setting up a quiet, safe space for your puppy to sleep and rest is also important. Check out details.

7. Adoption Process & Pricing

How does the adoption process work at Beechwood?
To get started, reach out through our Contact page. We’ll discuss availability and guide you through our puppy application process. Once approved, you can place a $500 application fee to join our waitlist or reserve a specific puppy when available.

How do I join your waitlist or reserve a puppy?
After we’ve reviewed your application and answered your questions, you can place an application fee to join our waitlist for upcoming litters or to reserve a puppy from a current litter, depending on availability.

How much do your puppies cost?
All our pups are the same price, regardless of size or which doodle mix--$3900. We’re happy to discuss what is included when you contact us.

What is included when I take my puppy home?
Each Beechwood puppy goes home with microchip, up‑to‑date vaccinations and deworming, a vet thorough health record, one-month free Trupanion Insurance, our written health guarantee, Goldendoodle Association of North America Certificate, and a go-home bag with surprise toy and scented blanket. We offer Snuggle Puppies to accompany your pup home, and lifetime support.

Do you offer visits to meet the parents or puppies?
We offer a puppy party meet-and-greet when pups on your litter are 6 1/2 weeks old. You'll be invited to Beechwood Farm to meet us, the pups, and other buyers on the list. Safety is our first priority for pups, so visits follow our health and safety guidelines.  The mama may still be here for you to meet, or the stud may make a special appearance. Both live in homes as beloved pets in our Guardianship program, so we respect their families' time, privacy, schedules, and safety, and also try to get the mamas back as soon as possible after weaning, as they have been greatly missed.

Do you offer delivery or transportation options?
In most cases, families pick up their puppies in person. Depending on your location and our schedule, we may be able to help arrange transportation for an additional fee. Please ask us about options if you’re coming from out of town.
